In the 11 days since I started the YouTube challenge to get to 1000 subscribers as a YouTube noob, I have learned a few things. The biggest lesson here was that I really did not know YouTube really, even if I thought I did.
So, what I've done in that time is that I went out to seek some education. And I found a great YouTube guru, Derral Eves, a man whose YouTube knowledge and mastery of all things YouTube has produced billions in YouTube views across his channels and those of his clients.
I was lucky to tune into some content he did for a 30 Day YouTube Challenge. And it taught me so much more than I ever knew about YouTube and the YouTube algorithm. Now, as Derral Eves says, there's not one YouTube algorithm, but numerous YouTube algorithms! But for a noob like me, talking about "the algorithm" will do just fine for now, however understand, there are multiple YouTube algorithms that all do different things.
Enough of that tech talk! So what happened on my channel?
Nothing. At first.
And now, I just had my best performing YouTube video ever!!!
And my channel subscribers grew around 10% in that 11 day period!
So some advice for your own YouTube channel:
*Talk about the areas in which you have subject matter expertise. You will build an audience faster that way than talking about stuff about which you have only tangential knowledge
*Pay attention to the trends happening around your industry, and create content around them to leverage on the pre-existing flow of attention
*Do pay attention to the gurus like Derral Eves who've gone before you and whose work can help you shortcut the YouTuber growth journey!
